If the cow isn't active enough, or turns away from the horse, the rider is allowed to choose another cow. However, this may only be done three times during the test. If the horse turns away from the cow one gets minus points.

Minus points will also be given when the horse has the cow escape or when the rider has to give his horse instructions or other directives. The thing is, the horse has to act independently. They are well trained to take notice of and their intelligence helps them scrutinize the behaviours of the cow in front of him.
